Our Vision for a Better Hawthorne

I believe in a Hawthorne where every resident feels valued, safe, and empowered. Here's just some of the few examples of how we can achieve this vision together.

SERVICE

Community Programs:

Neighborhood Clean-Up Initiatives: We will continue to organize regular community clean-up events to keep our streets and parks clean and beautiful. These events will encourage residents to take pride in their neighborhoods and work together for a cleaner city.

Volunteer Opportunities: Civic engagement is crucial. We will create a variety of volunteer programs in schools, parks, and community centers to involve residents in making Hawthorne a better place.

Affordable Housing: Implement policies to increase affordable housing availability through incentives for developers, zoning reforms, and innovative approaches to meet the housing needs of our community.

Homelessness and Social Services: Develop comprehensive strategies to address homelessness, including housing first initiatives, mental health support, and job placement services.

Support for Veterans:

Veteran Services Office: We will partner with offices dedicated to military veterans in order to support our veteran community, assisting them with employment opportunities, healthcare access, and housing support. This office will serve as a one-stop resource center for veterans and their families.

Military K9 Programs: We will welcome collaborating organizations, or create collaborations between the city and organizations that assist veterans through service dog training programs. These programs help veterans reintegrate into civilian life with the support of trained service dogs.

INTEGRITY

Transparent Governance:

Open Data Initiative: Transparency is key to trust. We will ensure city data is made accessible to the public, including budgets, spending reports, and meeting minutes. This initiative will allow residents to see exactly how their tax dollars are being spent and hold their government accountable.

Ethics Commission: Establishing an independent ethics commission will ensure that all government activities are conducted with integrity. This commission will oversee government operations and investigate any allegations of corruption or misconduct.

Community Engagement:

Town Hall Meetings: Regular town hall meetings will provide a platform for residents to voice their concerns and ask questions. These meetings will be scheduled throughout the year in different neighborhoods to ensure all residents have an opportunity to participate.

Citizen Advisory Boards: We will create advisory boards for various community issues, such as public safety, education, and economic development. These boards will include residents who can provide valuable insights and recommendations to the city council.

FAMILY

Education:

Business and City Partnership: Our students need more resources to provide quality real-life education. We will create a partnership with businesses in the city to provide real-work experience and understanding of small-business education.

After-School Programs: Support the local school districts' after-school program providing safe, enriching environments for children to learn and grow. These programs offer academic support, sports, arts, and other extracurricular activities.

Cultural and Recreational Programs: Enhance cultural initiatives, support local arts, and expand recreational opportunities for residents of all ages.

Family Services:

Family Resource Centers: We will establish centers throughout the city to offer support services, including counseling, parenting classes, and financial advice. These centers will be accessible to all families, providing essential resources to help them thrive.

Public Safety: Enhancing safety measures in our neighborhoods is a top priority. We will work closely with law enforcement to continue to implement community policing strategies, increase patrols in high-crime areas, and ensure our streets are safe for all residents. The goal is to establish safe zones around our homes and businesses, ensuring a cleaner, safer environment for all residents.

Small Business Grants: Supporting small businesses is vital for our local economy. We will provide grants and incentives to help new businesses start and existing ones to grow. These grants will focus on innovative, community-oriented businesses.

Business Incubators: Creating business incubators will support startups and entrepreneurs, offering resources like office space, mentorship, and networking opportunities. These incubators will help new businesses succeed and create local jobs.

Community Events:

Annual Festivals: Hosting annual festivals and cultural events will celebrate Hawthorne’s diversity and bring residents together. These events will include food, music, arts, and activities for all ages.

Sports and Recreation: We will improve and expand recreational facilities and programs, ensuring that all residents have access to quality sports and leisure activities. This includes upgrading parks, creating new sports leagues, and offering free fitness classes.

Infrastructure Development:

Transportation and Infrastructure: Improve public transportation options, and maintain and upgrade roads and public facilities, and promote sustainable infrastructure projects.

Environmental Sustainability: Implement green building standards, promote renewable energy use, enhance waste management practices, and protect local green spaces. Develop and maintain parks and green spaces providing beautiful, safe areas for residents to enjoy.
